This past week, Bird- one of the biggest companies in the world for eScooter sharing programs- announced that they're testing the capability of using Apple Pay to begin a ride on a Bird eScooter.
Apple Pay uses a technology called Near Field Communication. NFC is one part of a wireless link that pairs with a second chip to share data. For those of you who are wary of using this technology, don't worry: These two chips have to be 4 centimeters or 1.6 inches away from each other or less in order to transmit data.

Unveiled by Apple's Jennifer Bailey at the Transact Conference in Las Vegas, Bird is hoping to make an eScooter ride easier than ever by introducing this NFC technology into their systems. The best part about this: You don't even have to open the Bird app to get started. Bird is currently the only eScooter sharing company that offers this type of technology, and hopefully soon it will be available to all riders.
