Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt made a stop in New York City on Tuesday to advocate for his namesake electric scooter sharing company Bolt, as well as legalizing the use of electric scooters on Manhattan.
Currently, Bolt is operating its scooter fleet in Fort Lauderdale, Florida as well as in the DC-area towns of Alexandria and Arlington, Virginia. Runner Usain Bolt is currently promoting the brand, which hopes to expand.
“For me, I’m an Olympian so I know about getting around quickly," says Bolt.
New York City is being watched carefully by the eScooter community currently. In Manhattan, it is not currently legal to operate a folding electric scooter of any kind although it is legal in other areas, such as Brooklyn. City leaders have put a great foot forward in studying eScooters, their safety, and the impact on the area including interfacing with other electric scooter sharing companies like Lime.
