A return of MicroMobility to the city?
Last Monday, the Cleveland city council discussed some possible law changes that would allow eScooters to come back to the city streets, providing that they follow the same laws as cyclists. Although eScooter programs failed in Cleveland last summer, the city council is considering bringing the programs back with these regulations (below) in place.
A few proposed changes for eScooter use:
- You cannot operate an eScooter on a street that has a speed limit over 35mph.
- You wouldn't be able to exceed 15mph on an eScooter.
- You cannot park an eScooter on a sidewalk where it disturbs walking traffic flow.
- All eScooters must be parked in an upright position.
eScooter sharing companies would also have to agree to pay a fee of $1 per scooter per day in order to operate within the city limits. Every dollar from these fees would go to the Transportation Infrastructure Fund, which would help to build more bike lanes and eScooter parking within the city.
Did You Know....
We made a list of the lightest eScooters available on the market? These are a great option if you're a rider that has a short commute or you want something that you can easily carry, if needed.
Although it's a bit unclear when or even if the proposal will pass, this brings a lot of hope to the community which could benefit from MicroMobility.
