Bird has made a lot of headway lately. First, with the introduction of their new Bird One which is available for pre-order. Second, they've planned to move forward with contactless payment for renting one of their eScooters. Today, they stepped their game up a notch yet again with the announcement of the Bird Cruiser for their shared scooter rental fleet.
Coming this summer, Bird will be testing out the cruiser model in a few select markets before rolling it out through their entire rental fleet across the world. Bird's service is currently available in over 100 cities across the world.
In a message from Bird Founder and CEO, Travis VanderZanden, he says, “Bird’s introduction of shared e-scooters spurred a global phenomenon and mode shift away from cars. To further accelerate progress on our mission to make cities more livable, we are providing additional environmentally friendly micro-mobility alternatives—including Bird Cruiser. Starting this summer, people can move about their city and explore new neighborhoods together, without a car. Designed and engineered in California, Bird Cruiser is an inclusive electric-powered option that is approachable, easy-to-ride and comfortable on rough roads.”
- It has 20" wheels, giving it a more comfortable ride than smaller eScooter tires and makes it easier to handle uneven streets
- It has the option of being either pedal assist or comes with a standard peg to be fully electric.
- It has a 52 volt battery. This is no longer a "last mile" vehicle, but in fact something that has more range for longer rides.
- It has hydraulic disc brakes. This will provide better and smoother stopping power.
